Of course you love your dog! He’s part of the family, right? So you want him at your wedding as your ring bearer. This is a great idea, but there are a LOT of considerations that you want to think over and talk about with your fiancé before you purchase that adorable bow tie collar.
- Is he ready for this? This is a taxing moment for even the calmest dog. Walking through 200 guests cooing over him can be a little overwhelming. Not to mention all the new smells and potential areas to mark for later.
- Is your venue pet friendly? Some venues like The Abbey allow pets at the ceremony, but ask you to board them for overnight stays at local boarding facilities. Grand Geneva also allows dogs, but you always want to call and ask their policy AND if they have pet friendly rooms open for the nights needed.
- Who is taking care of him while you are dancing the night away? You absolutely will have to designate someone to check on him or, at least, make sure someone responsible drops him off at the doggie daycare during their business hours. Hotel guests will not love a howling dog whose been forgotten during open bar.
- Practice, rehearse, and train as much as possible. Even then, be prepared that he won’t do it just so (or at all). He could just be too overwhelmed or too excited. You have to be understanding that he won’t know how important of a day this is for you.
Finally, ENJOY EVERY MOMENT!
